NORTH WEST CHALLENGE COMPETIONS

Principles

  • Lancashire RFU works collaboratively with Cheshire RFU and the Northern Girls Network (NGN) to provide a varied playing landscape for girls teams across the North West.
  • The NGN provides both foundational and competitive platforms, through Grow and Compete tiers, for teams to regularly access appropriate playing opportunities to maximise player development.
  • The Challenge collaborates with the NGN offer to provide a structured competitive offer for developed teams at U14s-U18s, culminating in a winner.


Competition Structure

U12s

  • Teams can participate in Six Challenge festival dates across the season with a match focus to help prepare for the progression into U14s.
  • Supplementary development-focused festivals are offered through the season by the Northern Girls Network and local clubs.

 

U14s

  • The Compete tier of the Northern Girls Network provides a structured fixture list which doubles as a seeding tool for the Challenge.
  • The Challenge provides a competitive cup competition and takes place post-Christmas. Providing 3 fixture dates and a Celebration/Finals Day.
  • Teams entered into the Challenge will be seeded based on games played in the Compete tier to provide appropriately competitive fixtures.
  • Results for the Compete and Challenge offers are recorded on the RFU Game Management System (GMS) and are not currently published externally.

 

U16s

  • The Compete tier of the Northern Girls Network provides a structured fixture list which doubles as a seeding tool for the Challenge.
  • The Challenge provides a competitive cup competition and takes place post-Christmas. Providing 3 fixture dates and a Celebration/Finals Day.
  • Teams entered into the Challenge will be seeded based on games played in the Compete tier to provide appropriately competitive fixtures.
  • Results for the Compete and Challenge offers are recorded on the RFU Game Management System (GMS) and are not currently published externally.

 

U18s

  • U18s Merit League is run in conjunction with the Northern Girls Network, providing structured fixtures for both standalone and pre-arranged cluster teams. League will conclude by Christmas.

 


NATIONAL CUP COMPETITIONS

RFU Girl's Under 16 and Under 18 National Cup

The RFU Girl's U16 and U18 National Cups are nationwide tournaments and include a regional and national components, with up to 64 teams eligible to enter each age group. The cups run from October to April and aim to help bridge the gap between development-level teams and representative rugby, by providing competitive matches and a structured season at a national level for girls.
