SUPPORT YOUR CLUB
Recruit
Thousands of people give up their time to support rugby clubs across the county. You do not need to be a player or have any previous experience of rugby to join them and make a difference. If you would like to get involved there are a plenty of opportunities to find your place on the team. From on-field roles such as coaching to off-field roles such as helping with catering, event management, administration, facility development or communications, there’s a role for you.
If you are already a member of a club, get in touch with the committee who will be delighted to hear from you and offer suggestions of how you can help.
If you are a club in need of recruiting volunteer help, the Rugby Football Union (RFU) offers resources, a Volunteer Recruitment Fund, and guides to help with planning and communication. You can attract volunteers from parents of Junior players, using social media, or partnering with a local high school or colleges to offer work experience. Don't throw a new volunteer in at the deep end with a big job loaded with commitment and responsbility, start them with small tasks to develop their confidence and skills, as you would a new player.
Retain
New recruits, if well supported, will soon want to play their full part in the team. The RFU have tools and training to help clubs to develop their volunteers' skills and knowledge to keep them engaged and enjoying their experience https://www.englandrugby.com/run/club-management/volunteers/development
Reward
Thousands of volunteers give back to grassroots rugby, week in, week out. From the kit washers and line painters to the tea makers and administrators, the game that we love wouldn’t be the same without the people who work tirelessly behind the scenes for little thanks.
The Honda Volunteer Recognition Programme provides clubs, Constituent Bodies and the rugby community with an opportunity to recognise and reward volunteers for their essential contributions and dedicated efforts.
The RFU support the county volunteer recognition programme which enables each county to recognise and reward the valued volunteers from their locality. Presentations are made at the end of each season at a Lancashire County Rugby event where the contributions and efforts of dozens of our club volunteers are celebrated.
