PRINCIPLES
- Lancashire RFU is responsible for the growth, support and promotion of Girls Rugby in Lancashire clubs and schools.
- Girls Rugby is one of the fastest growing sports in the world and Lancashire RFU want to ensure girls across the North West have inclusive opportunities to play and improve thier skills, by establishing a Girls development pathway that is player-centred and competition-supported so more girls aged 11-18 are able continue their rugby journey into female adult rugby.
- Lancashire RFU encourages all its members clubs to promote the development of players' personal and social skills as well as a wide range of sports skills to instill in the players a love of the game and a lifelong involvement in Rugby. In thier delivery of rugby, Clubs and Coaches should adhere to the RFU Codes of practice and promote the core values of TEAMWORK, RESPECT, ENJOYMENT, DISCIPLINE, SPORTSMANSHIP.
- All fixtures should be played in accordance with the RFU Age Grade Regulations. The half game rule must be observed to ensure Rugby is equitable and inclusive. RFU Age Grade Regulations are designed to protect the well being of children and prevent mismatches, ensuring that players develop the correct skills at the right time and play at a level appropriate for their physical and mental development.

RFU GIRLS PDG PATHWAY
- The Girls' PDG foundation phase is an RFU programme for players in the Under 16 age group, delivered in partnership with 28 Counties. The programme is designed to support a player’s journey and is delivered by local coaches. To access the programme players are usually nominated through their club or school to the Lancashire RFU Girls Rugby lead.
- For the foundation phase emphasis is placed on developing the athletic skills that support a player to perform and the core rugby skills needed to play. Players are asked to play in different positions to broaden their range of skills as they progress forward. Development is non-linear and players thrive at different points and as such, programmes accept nominations at various times during the season.
- The Girls' PDG Development phase is for players in the U18 age group and is an England Rugby programme, centrally delivered in regional hubs across the country. It aims to inspire and equip players to maximise their potential and prepare them for the transition into adult rugby.
- Players within the Girls U18 PDG programme may also be selected for the Girls U18 England squad.
- Each of the 9 centres follows a national curriculum, designed to build upon the skills players will have gained at the Foundation Phase and best prepare them for their transition into adult rugby, both on and off the pitch.
- The PDG development phase has a focus on providing targeted skill work that encourages a player to explore their technical boundaries, game understanding, decision-making, and the off-field skills that will support them to thrive in the adult rugby game.
- All players are encoruaged to continue to play for a local community club, as well as their school or college where appropriate.
- To access the programme, players are nominated through their CB and then invited to an assessment period over the summer holidays. For those players selected, training sessions begin in October.
- More information can be found on this link https://www.englandrugby.com/play/parents-guardians/player-pathway/development-phase-girls-pathway
- The Girls U18 PDG focuses on players consistently executing these key skills, under a variety of situations, in preparation for the transition into adult team.
