The Rugby Football Union is the governing body for rugby union in England.
The RFU oversees both grassroots and elite-level rugby. Its purpose is to encourage rugby, and its values, to flourish across England. The RFU is is a member-based organisation that reinvests profits back into the sport. Founded in 1871, it was the sport's international governing body prior to the formation of what is now known as World Rugby in 1886.
